Prompting: how to talk to AI the right way

Have you ever asked an AI for something and got a useless answer back? Usually the problem is not the AI, it is the way we ask. The skill of talking to AI the right way is called prompting, and the good news is that it is really easy to learn. Let's start together. ✍️
So what is a prompt?
A prompt is simply what you say to or ask an AI. Every message you type is a prompt. The clearer and more complete that message is, the better the answer you get back.
Think of it like handing a task to a very smart but brand new assistant. If you don't tell it exactly what you want, it will guess, and it might guess wrong.
Give the AI a role
One of the most powerful tricks is to first tell the AI who it is. For example, instead of 'write a post for Instagram', say 'You are an Instagram content expert, write a catchy caption for a flower shop sale post.'
When you assign a role, the AI adopts the tone and knowledge that fit that role, and the answer comes out far more professional.
Be specific and add detail
The more detail you give, the closer the answer is to what you want. Instead of 'write an email', say 'Write a short, polite email to a customer letting them know their order will arrive a day late, and apologize.'
Always keep four things in mind: what the topic is, who it is for, what tone it should have, and how long it should be.
Don't be afraid to refine
Your first prompt doesn't have to be perfect. If the answer isn't what you wanted, just tell it what to change: 'make it shorter', 'make it more formal', 'add an example'. The AI remembers and reshapes the answer.
This back and forth is completely normal. Even the pros refine their prompts several times.
Prompting means being clear, giving a role, adding detail, and not being afraid to refine. Follow those four and the quality of your answers multiplies. Want to practice? Go chat with Bright on the site right now and give it a good prompt. 🚀
